A road overpass under construction collapsed Thursday in a crowded Kolkata neighborhood, slamming into midday traffic.
Tons of concrete and steel slammed into midday traffic, leaving at least 21 people dead and scores of others injured in the Indian city, police said.
Building collapses are common in India, where regulations are poorly enforced and builders often use substandard materials.
Rescuers carry a victim from the site of the collapse.
More than 70 injured people were admitted to two hospitals in Kolkata, the state capital, hospital officials said.
